J. Peter Jost practices law in Clinton, Hunterdon County, with emphasis on local government law. He is a graduate of Colby College and Rutgers Law School. He served as a judicial clerk to the Hon. A. Donald McKenzie and the Hon. James M. Cauley in Union County, New Jersey.  He is admitted to practice by the New Jersey Supreme Court, the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey, the Third Circuit of the United States Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court.  He was associated with the law firm of Hauck & McIntyre in Clinton until 1977, when he opened his own law firm.  He currently represents the Board of Ethics of the City of New Brunswick in Middlesex County.  He served as attorney for the Borough of Glen Gardner for 40 years and for the Borough of Califon for 44 years.  He served as Township Attorney for the Township of Union in Hunterdon County from 1977 to 2019 and currently serves as Special Counsel for Union Township.  He formerly served as municipal attorney for the Townships of Alexandria and Kingwood in Hunterdon County and the Township of Greenwich in Warren County, and as attorney for the Holland Township Board of Adjustment.  He has served as special counsel for a number of other municipalities in Hunterdon County.  He is a member of the New Jersey Institute of Local Government Attorneys, the International Municipal Lawyers Association, and the Hunterdon County and New Jersey State Bar Associations.  He holds the Diplomate in Municipal Law from the New Jersey Institute of Local Government Attorneys and Rutgers University.  He received the 1997 Professional Lawyer of the Year Award from the New Jersey Commission on Professionalism in the Law and the Hunterdon County Bar Association.  He is a past president of the North Hunterdon Kiwanis Club and a past trustee of the Lavallette Yacht Club.  He is a past president of the New Jersey Institute of Local Government Attorneys and presently serves as Executive Director of the Institute.
