Diplomate Scholarship Application

Advance your expertise in municipal law with the Diplomate in New Jersey Local Government Law — a prestigious program offered by NJILGA in partnership with Rutgers University. Through a series of in-depth courses led by seasoned professionals, attorneys can earn certification while deepening their knowledge of local government practice.

The New Jersey Institute of Local Government Attorneys (“NJILGA”) was established in 1951 for the purpose of promoting education and professionalism among local government attorneys, and to assist members of the legal profession to better serve local governments in New Jersey. It is an affiliate of the New Jersey State League of Municipalities (NJLM).

Diplomate Program Description: The Municipal Attorney Training Program is a cooperative endeavor between NJILGA and the Center for Government Services (CGS) at Rutgers. The program is designed to provide valuable information on local government law for attorneys at any experience level within municipal government and those seeking local government appointments. The courses are instructed by well-known practitioners and subject matter experts in local government law.

The six courses are:

  • Introduction to Local Government Law
  • Local Government Liability in New Jersey
  • Local Government Real Estate
  • Local Public Contracts Law
  • Public Sector Labor Law
  • Municipal Finance Management

Scholarship Description: NJILGA has established a scholarship fund to assist attorneys in their ability to enroll in the Diplomate Program. NJILGA hopes to make multiple awards per term to cover all or a portion of the cost per course. Scholarship will be paid on a reimbursement basis, following satisfactory completion of course.
